HOWDY Party Highlights: Welcoming Future Aggies in Mid Jefferson County

On July 29, 2025, the Mid Jefferson County Aggie Moms’ Club hosted a spirited HOWDY Party at Butchers Korner in downtown Nederland, Texas. Families and incoming students gathered to celebrate their upcoming journey to Texas A&M University in College Station and Galveston. It was a wonderful evening filled with community, connection, and heartfelt stories from current Aggie students.

We were honored to have four outstanding Aggies share their experiences and offer valuable insight into life on campus.

Kara Oliver – Senior, Texas A&M

Aggie Southern Darlings & Fish Camp Counselor

Kara introduced us to Aggie Southern Darlings, a women’s organization founded in 2014 by Texas A&M alumni. The group is grounded in three core values: Sisterhood, Service, and Southern Hospitality. Kara shared how the Darlings foster a welcoming space where women build deep, lasting friendships through service events, social gatherings, and sisterhood bonding.

Their annual fundraising efforts support B.I.G. Love Cancer Care, a cause close to their hearts. Kara emphasized how being part of Southern Darlings has given her a supportive home-away-from-home and memories to last a lifetime.

In addition to her involvement in Darlings, Kara also serves as a Fish Camp counselor—a role that welcomes incoming freshmen into the Aggie Family. Fish Camp introduces students to Aggie traditions and encourages lasting relationships built on the Aggie Spirit.

Libby Sanders – Sophomore, Texas A&M

Freshman Leadership Organizations (FLOs)

Libby shared her journey as a member of a Freshman Leadership Organization (FLO)—a year‑long program designed to develop leadership skills and integrate freshmen into campus life.

She highlighted the importance of preparing for the interview process and encouraged incoming freshmen to truly connect with fellow group members. Her FLO welcomed 56 students, and she’s made some of her closest friends through the group while enjoying memorable activities like “Banner.”

Taryn Chatagnier – Senior, Texas A&M

Aggie Sisters for Christ

Taryn spoke from the heart about her involvement in Aggie Sisters for Christ (ASC), a Christ-centered organization focused on fellowship, spiritual accountability, and service.

She explained how the group deepened her personal faith and provided her with a community of women who share similar beliefs. Her advice to incoming freshmen? Be bold—step outside your comfort zone and connect with new people.

Logan Eymard – Sophomore, Texas A&M

Corps of Cadets, Company E-2

Logan gave us an inside look into life in the Corps of Cadets, where he serves in Company E‑2, the Mascot Company responsible for caring for Reveille X, Texas A&M’s beloved canine mascot.

He spoke about the discipline, camaraderie, and leadership development that come with being in the Corps. Logan described how incoming cadets are challenged to grow into servant leaders—both on campus and beyond. Parents especially enjoyed this segment, asking plenty of questions about day-to-day life in the Corps.

A Night of Community and Tradition

The HOWDY Party was more than just a send-off—it was a celebration of the Aggie Spirit. We’re so proud of these local students and grateful to the speakers who took time to share their stories. Their words gave incoming students confidence, inspiration, and a heartfelt welcome into the Aggie Family.

Gig ’em, and best of luck to all our new Aggies!
